My friend Molly wrote a little something about the current political conundrum.  She posted it on the myspace bulletin board so I have taken the whole thing and put it here.

"A thing or two to think about . . . 

Let me see if I have this straight. . .

 

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raise d by your grand parents, you' re “exotic”, “different ”.

* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story .

 

* If your name is Barack you' re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track , you' re a maverick.

 

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating , you' re well grounded.

 

* If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150, 000 new voter s, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750, 000 people, become chair man of the state Senate' s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the Unite d State s Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran' s Affairs committees , you don' t have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7, 000 people, 20 month s as the governor of a state with only 650, 000 people, then you' re qualified to become the country' s second highest ranking executive.

 

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant , you' re very responsible.

 

*If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a posit ion in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family' s value s don' t represent America' s.

*If you' re husband is nicknamed ' First Dude' , with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA , your family is extremely admirable"

I am glad I have wise friends.

Access Denied.

   And so I did not get into the N.E.W. juried show.  I have mixed emotions about this.  I am sad for my show resume but I am kinda glad I didn't get in because when I would have sold a piece I would have hated giving them the 50% they require after the entry fee.  If I can make the opening of the show I would like to go just to see the look of the show and the works the juror chose.  I know my work is a little different (wall hanging sculptures and all) and might be hard to show with a lot of paintings.  So I am going to look into other local venues to show.  The Durham Art Walk is coming up soon and I am in need to do something about that.

   Oh...  And my apologies to the one reader of my bog (thanks Mom ;-) for not posting in a while.  I have been kinda busy with "life shit."  

Giving my old molds another shot.

   I am trying to get a couple more casts out of my old molds before I retire them for good.  And if they mess up another cast I will retire them real good with a real big hammer.  This way I am killing two birds with one stone.  I am getting out some of my frustration and, at the same time, I am preventing future frustration.  Good times.

Starting over on the molds.... I messed up the last one.

   Seeing that my old slip casting molds are no longer doing there job I have started making new ones.  Rushing the first try wasn't such a good method.  I had to trash the first one after my mold dams sprung a leak and I ended up with more plaster on the floor than in the mold itself.  The second time around I took a little more time and did it a little more correctly.  And though not perfect I think that this one will work.  Well it looks better anyway.
